INBETWEEN 2014

INBETWEEN ist ein Format für Performance und zeitbasierte Medien der Schleifmühlgasse 12-14,
in dessen Rahmen Künstler_innen der Galerie neuentwickelte Performances,
als auch Zwischenstadien von Arbeiten oder work in progress-Projekten, präsentieren.
INBETWEEN läuft neben und zwischen dem regulären Ausstellungsprogramm.
Der Raum wird für Gastkünstler_innen geöffnet, die damit die Möglichkeit erhalten,
am Galerieprogramm zu partizipieren, was zu Kooperationsprojekten zwischen den Künstler_innen anregt.

INBETWEEN is a platform for performance and time-based media.
It is a format for developed performances and intermediate stages of works in progress.
Upcoming artists are given the chance to participate in the gallery’s program.
INBETWEEN is providing a setting for exchange and plurality.

BLOT OUT  ist eine multimediale Ausstellung zum Thema WK1. 

Die Arbeit „muddy waters“ von Robert Reszner dient in ihrer formalen Reduktion als Auslöser subjektiver Assoziationen und Empfindungen, die sich in der Arbeit „shell shock“ von Eva Maria Schartmüller verdichten. Die filmische Darstellung kriegshysterischer Krankheitssymptome und verdrängte Vergangenheitssituationen werden in Form von Installationen zu visuellen und akustischen Abbildungsorten.

Shell shock ist eine Bezeichnung, die psychiatrischer Syndrome der männlichen Hysterie zusammenfasste. Es zeichnete sich durch ein permanentes Zittern, bei allen Tätigkeiten, Symptome der Paralyse und Sprachschwierigkeiten aus. Die Symptome traten entweder gleich nach dem Feldeinsatz auf, oder später, ohne dass direkte Verbindungen zu den Ereignissen im Feld sichtbar wurden. Zu Zeiten des 1. Weltkrieges, waren posttraumatische Psychosen durch den Feldeinsatz verursacht, noch nicht bekannt. Diese kriegsbezogenen Symptome wurden eher als Schwächen der Männlichkeit eingestuft.

BLOT OUT is a multimedia installation in reference to WW1.

“muddy waters” by Robert Reszner attends as a catalyst of subjective associations and perceptions by its formal reduction and compactions the art work “shell shock” by Eva Schartmüller.

The kind of cinematic illustration of symptoms of hysterical forms of diseases in connection with WW1 and replaced situations of the past will be transformed in a visual and acoustic installation.

shell shock was a term used to describe military psychiatric syndromes of male hysteria, mobility disorders such as persistent tremor, walking, sitting and standing disorders, tics, symptoms of paralysis, but also disturbances of speech. The symptoms occurred either soon after the experiences in the field, or without directly visible temporal and spatial references to them.At the time of WW1 there was no consensus about the knowledge to war-conditioned traumas. The war-hysterical symptoms were understood as a serious sign for male and soldierly weakness.The “shell shock sufferer” formed a counter model to the typical rationality and masculinity figures of the army; he seemed to undermine their efficiency and order.

YIN Yi’s work is involved in sound art, video art, experimental electronic music and phonography.

In early music career, his range of work includes live music performance, contemporary dance and physical theatre. His music frequently used by modern dance company and dance artist like Zuhe Niao(Shanghai), Tanzcompagnie Rubato(Berlin), Guangdong Modern Dance Company, etc. In recent years, YIN Yi focuses his work on computer music performanceand soundscape based on phonography.
As a sound artist of new generation in China, YIN Yi focuses his sound art work on not only sound as media and material but also sound as perception, perceive, instinct, power, aesthetics, culture property, especially listening awareness and the difference between visual/light and auditory/sound.
In the past tow years, YIN Yi paid close attention to the artistic ecology of the experimental music and sound art in China, his recent curate activity includes “Formant” sound art exhibition; “Sonic Transmission” exchange project between Shanghai and HongKong; “Co-Sound” sound performance festival, etc.In 2013, YIN Yi was invited by Rockbund Art Museum to curate “SAVAKA – Asia Experimental Music Currents”, including performance and conversation with artists from Asia.

Never gone for too long. Not sure about the return. Never easy. Not many good opportunities, but at least they sound better than back home. The presentation tells stories of birds, bears and bunnies that went abroad, in search of living decently.

Daniel Djamo (b.1987, lives and works in Bucharest) is a Romanian artist and film director that is interested in personal and group histories and tales. He combines film with video art and installation with photography in order to evoke the past and to underline “the now.”

Winner of the ESSL award, Henkel Art.Award. Young artist prize CEE, Startpoint Prize Romania and the Grand Prize of the National University of Fine Arts from Bucharest.

Daniel benefited from residencies in Paris, Kassel, Chemnitz, Bruxelles, Vienna and Liege.

He exhibited at the Museum of Moscow, Kunsthaus Dresden, Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) and the ESSL museum from Vienna, while also presenting his works in Germany, Italy, Canada, Netherlands, USA, Russia, Portugal, Czech Republic, Estonia etc. His video artworks have been screened in numerous video art and film festivals.

He is a PhD candidate at the National University of Fine Arts from Bucharest.
